Dr. Samuel Lynch

Dr. Lynch learned his love of cattle and the outdoors growing up on a small family farm in rural southeastern Illinois. Like many, his lifelong values were shaped on the farm by the necessity of hard work, and love of family and God. He was blessed by supportive parents with a thirst for knowledge, even though his father had been forced to leave school after sixth grade to help support his family. Gifted with this background of hard labor on the farm which taught the value of work and perseverance, and the thirst for knowledge, he obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and completed his doctorate at Harvard Medical School.

In 2000 he and his wife, Leslie and three children moved to middle Tennessee and true to the old adage; you can take the boy out of the country but you can't take the country out of the boy. He immediately began buying farmland in Williamson County and a few cows to go on the land. Today, he is proud of the Black Angus herd he, Bill, and Jimmy have built together with the help of many great cattlemen throughout the country. We hope you enjoy and find the value in these great Angus cattle as much as we do!

Jimmy Armstrong

First introduced to Registered Angus Cattle in 1970 by his father, the late Maurice Armstrong, Jimmy learned the ins and outs of the cattle business. With the support of his wife, Jenny, and his sons, Matthew and Kyle, Jimmy went on to found Fancy Free Farm in 1993.

In 2000, Fancy Free Farm became one of the original members of Decades of Excellence. Since 2003, Fancy Free Farm has hosted the annual Decades of Excellence cow sale. During the 2022 sale, Jimmy was introduced to a Mr. Bill Dickerson, with whom he became instant best friends.

A few months later, Jimmy had serious health issues arise, and decided that it was time for him to retire from the Angus cattle business; however, Mr. Dickerson would not allow that to happen. In December of 2023, Jimmy was introduced to Dr. Samuel Lynch, who also became a close friend. In January of 2024, the three of them sat down and formed a partnership called Southall Angus LLC.

Bill Dickerson

Bill Dickerson was raised in Middle Tennessee where his first job was cutting hay and preconditioning cattle for shipment at the River Circle Farm. With the encouragement of his parents, Bill went on to get a Christian education in agriculture at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business, Bill started his career at the ACU Allen Farm and Abilene Stockyard.

Bill met his soulmate Glyna and felt a draw back to Tennessee. He and his new love moved back in 1987. With the help of his Uncle David Emery, Bill opened up Kubota tractor dealerships in Middle Tennessee; and today is still in the power equipment business with a store in Franklin. Bill got back into the cattle business and met Dr. Samuel Lynch buying cattle as Dr. Lynch was considering a dispersement sale. Soon, through an introduction by Jeremy Haag to “Big Daddy” Jimmy Armstrong, Bill was invited to consign cattle in Jimmy's Decades of Excellence Sale.

Jimmy had talked about this being his last sale, but Bill saw a different future. Bill saw the vision that would be Southall Angus and convinced Jimmy and Sam that together they could build something special.
